The two glossy, silver doors closed with a screech. She closed her eyes, listened to the classical music, and slowly dozed off to sleep where she stood.

The ring of the elevator bell woke her as the doors opened and to her surprise, there was her her ex-boyfriend Mike, getting into the elevator. For a moment there was silence, and then small smiles started to appear on both their faces.

“Mike? What are you doing here? I haven’t seen you in ages,” Katie asked, surprised.

Mike answered, still somewhat in shock, “Wow, this is amazing, I haven’t seen you in 8 years!”

And so they chatted until the elevator stopped again at the third floor. Then the elevator suddenly started shaking, and began to fall at full speed. Katie screamed her head off and Mike pressed the bell frantically. Mike grabbed Katie and told her to calm down. She held on tight, her crystal tears crawling down her cheek. It was then that Mike saw the cursed white heart on her finger; it was then he let go of her. With a surprised look on his face, he slowly backed off and sat down as the elevator stabilized. Finally the elevator stopped and Katie was pressing the bell.

“What’s wrong with you? Help me get out of here! Why did you let go of me? ” Katie scolded, hurt in her eyes.

Mike was clearly upset. “You couldn’t bother to tell me that you were married?”

“Well, sorry for not keeping in touch for eight years! Don’t blame this on me; it’s your fault too!” she yelled back.

It was suddenly silent, and no one said a word after that.

Then the elevator doors slid open, and Katie sped out.
